ALWAYS BY YOUR SIDE feat Anna Weatherup

July is International Sarcoma Awareness month. Always By Your Side was written and sung to give hope and raise awareness to all those in our commmunity battling illness.

Sometimes you just have to throw out the rule book, follow your heart and write a song the way you feel it. I started out as a Paediatric Cancer Nurse and began writing music with these special children as my inspiration. Fast forward 20 years, and I find myself again writing about the same themes.

Always By Your Side was inspired by some truly amazing young adults all battling the rare childhood cancer that is Sarcoma. It is my hope to raise awareness and funding for this type of cancer and show you, the listener, the true "reality"of what all  those battling this illness are faced with. I hope this song can promote hope and inspiration, Always fighting, Always hope and Always by your side .

I am extremely humbled to have worked with vocalist Anna Weatherup as feature artist on this song. I can't thank her enough for giving 100% of her heart to this project. You may have heard Anna on the Voice, season 2 and a 4 chair turn. Anna is an incredible artist and her voice is just magic.I am forever grateful to her for bringing my song to life by her incredible ability to tell a story through song. Stay tuned for more on Anna, she is about to realease her Album, and I can tell you it is AMAZING.

Special thanks to my good friend and lyricist, Mick Evans from the UK, who came on board to co write this song with me. Thanks for making early morning skype sessions on the other side of the world much more fun.  There were many times when this song came to a stand still, but with Mick's encouragment and enthusiasm, we got there in the end.

Mentoring Sessions with Mark Cawley.

WOW , some days are just fabulous and today is one of them. It's not everyday the opportunity to be mentored by none other then Hit Songwriter Mark Cawley comes around . After winning the international Uk Songwriting contest for best Acoustic/Folk  song , I connected  to Mark , one of the songwriting judges from this contest . Mark is an acclaimed songwriter who has written songs for Tina Turner , Diana Ross , Wynonna , Billie Piper and the Spice Girls , just to name a few . His songs have appeared on more then 15 million records to date .

The opportunity came up for me to sign on for a month of songwriting/mentoring lessons , and you can only imagine how excited I was . After my initial nervousness upon meeting Mark over Skype , after just one lesson I came away totally inspired and thirsty for more . I have now completed 4 weeks of songwriting sessions and come away so inspired and enthusiastic that I just had to sign up for more.

Mark has this incredible way of teaching you through humour , colour , imagination and so much encouragement . His ability to share his songwriting expertise so generously is really quite something . He has certainly taught me to be 'brave' with my songwriting , pushed me where I needed it and encouraged me to keep writing even when time poor with my rather large family of 6 . In just 4 short weeks I have learnt some really valuable tools to apply to my songwriting, and hopefully , I can make my lyrics more endearing to you the listener. What an absolute priviledge it is to be mentored by such a truly talented man and icon in the music industry .

Mark's humble approach to songwriting is just fabulous and Im so  grateful to have had this experience. How very exciting that all this is done over Skype from Australia to Nashville. I would certainly recommend all songwriters needing  help with Lyric writing to contact Mark as Im sure you would be just as grateful as I am . Press Here for Mark Cawleys website .

Many thanks to the Uk Songwriting Contest , so glad I entered it .

Can't wait to share my new song with you all soon :)

Dinner with Gayle Forman, New York Best Selling Author

20130627-092751.jpg

I recently met with Gayle Forman, Author of ‘if i stay’ in Melbourne for dinner. What an inspiration this lady is and I thank her so generously for not only writing such a stunning book but allowing me to be part of such a special, special journey.

What an absolute honour it was to meet the beautiful Author of ‘if I stay’ Gayle Forman, New Yorks no 1 best selling teen author. It was pure luck and my destiny that we could meet,of all places, here in Australia. I figured if Gayle could travel 24 hours to get to Australia then my daughter and I could travel 12 hours to make it to Melbourne for dinner. My daughter was the reason I read the book so it was only fitting that I took her with me on this big, spontaneous, amazing adventure. We had such an incredible night with an extremely gracious and lovely lady who was such fantastic company to be with. Im sure there will always be a lovely connection between a “writer” and a “musician” for a long time to come!

Years ago my Daughter Lucy was given a book to read and it was suggested that I should read it too. After reading the novel,”if I stay”, I woke in the middle of the night with the most amazing melodies and lyrics in my head, so at 1am I began writing this song. I wrote to Gayle (through social media) asking her permission to use the title and themes of the book as inspiration for my song and to my absolute surprise Gayle not only replied but also agreed.I spent the next 12 months writing the lyrics and the melody and then presented the song all finished to Gayle. I was so excited she liked it!
Fast forward 4 years and ‘if I stay’ is signed to Red Lab Records in LA and part of my compilation album, A Moment in Time, which was recorded and arranged by my wonderful producer and friend Pete Stevenson from Turn Around Music.

Oh and ‘if I stay’ looks set to be made into a major Hollywood movie with RJ Cutler as Director and and Chloe Moretz as Mia !

I have decided that anything is possible if you dare to let yourself dream!

Here is the article from Hypable and an interview with Gayle and a mention of my song . Just click on the link Hypable Hypable
